Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.

You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.

Here are some essential plau items that I had as a young child:
Verbot Teddy Ruxpin Easy Bake Oven

My childhood experience was filled with a lot of play. As a young child, my parents encouraged me to go out and play with other children my age, so I could make new friends. They wanted to help me discover my strengths and interests as well as showing me how to choose the right place for me to learn social skills. Once I turned six years old my parent introduced me to team sports such as basketball, soccer, tea ball, and track. Those sports helped me to continue my growth in building my social skills.
Play is no longer a fun activity for young children these days. Parents are pushing their children to play sports instead of letting them choose for themselves. Once a child is forced to do something that they don’t want to do then it causes them to resent their parents. It’s okay to introduce your child into team sport but no parent should push their child into doing something that they don’t’ want to do.
I may be an adult, but because the role of play was shown throughout my life, it has made me a kid at heart. I love being around children and teaching them the necessity of play. A child must experience play, so they can grow and learn the necessary skills they need to be successful.
It is good when we can look back over our lives and remember those great moments that we had as a child. I too had an easy bake oven when I was a little girl. The one that I has was the yellow one back in the 1980's. The day of Christmas I remember opening it and mixing up my cake mix, I poured it into the pan ans placed it inside the eady bake oven, but it did not work I was so disappointed until we found out that ir needed a light bulb. Then I baked up a storm.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how soon adults forget the fun they experienced as children. When I see children just sitting inside watching tv it drives me crazy. I frequently plan activities for our whole (extended) family to get us all out of the house even if it's just a trip to the park. I think it's important for children to have people like us in their lives, that remember the fun we had and to teach them.
ReplyDeleteErica,
ReplyDeleteAwesome that we are talking about play in class right now. My sister surprised us with a visit for Thanksgiving and the six of us have been playing and not having a care in the world since Tuesday!
I loved playing sports when I was a child and could not wait to sign my son up for them. Softball was my favorite so I hoped my son would like baseball. Unfortunately, he didn't really like it and only played it for 3 seasons. I was devasted when he didn't want to play anymore. There were many parents who forced their children to play even though they didn't want to. This isn't good for the child or the parent child relationship. I just want my children to be happy and I will do whatever I can to help them.
ReplyDeleteErica,
ReplyDeleteI agree back in the day play was really fun. I played with some of those same toys. But your toy are little more modern than mime. I love to play out side with my friends and realy love to ride my bike. I would ride from sun up to sun down. I can not get my kids to ride anything but in the car.
